AutoCAD drawings are usually DWG. BuildLab parses DXF directly and converts DWG to DXF before proposing quantities for an engineer to check.

How BuildLab reads AutoCAD drawings
The goal is to extract layers, entities and blocks cleanly enough to propose quantities, not to replace an engineer reading the drawing.

Pick the right file type
DWG and DXF enter the CAD flow. PDF or images are only stored with the project and are not parsed like AutoCAD.

Confirm units and discipline
After processing, check units (mm, cm, m) and discipline if the system is unsure. Wrong units throw off the whole quantity table.

Match layers to BOQ items
Extracted layers and entities are inputs only. Mapping them to BOQ item codes still happens during review.

Review before export
Lock approved quantities, then move them into BOQ Excel. Do not export straight from a raw AutoCAD file.
Limits when the file comes from AutoCAD
DWG depends on a conversion step to DXF. That conversion can fail on proxy objects, unusual versions, or corrupt files. Then there is no automatic quantity.
Dynamic blocks, xrefs, hatches and text notes do not always become quantities. An engineer still has to read the source drawing.

No. This is not AutoCAD in the browser. DWG is converted to DXF so layers and entities can be extracted, then an engineer reviews quantities.
Is a DXF export from AutoCAD better?
A clean DXF skips the DWG conversion step, so it often reaches parsing faster. Quantity review is still required.
