Brick wall calculator
Estimate the bricks needed for a wall area by brick type (solid/hollow/thin), wall thickness, mortar joint and waste % — common reference rates.
Enter wall area and choose brick type, wall thickness and mortar joint.
Enter an area and press “Calculate bricks” to see the result.
Source & verificationReference market rates
The coefficients/rates come from commonly used market references in Vietnam — not TCVN, not the applicable norms for your project. Use as a starting point and adjust to your case.
Bricks per m² by brick type, wall thickness and joint — reference rates commonly used in Vietnam (practice/ĐM 1776-style tables), not TCVN.
About the brick wall calculator
Quickly estimate how many bricks to buy for a wall — answering the common question “how many bricks per m² of wall” for residential take-off.
What you enter
Wall area to build (m²), brick type (solid 220×105×60, hollow 205×95×95 or thin 180×80×40), wall thickness (110 or 220), mortar joint (mm) and waste allowance %.
What the result means
Bricks per m² of wall for the chosen type and the total count for the whole area including the waste allowance — a reference figure for purchasing.
Use cases
Quick brick estimates for one-storey and terraced houses; cross-checking brick quantities in a cost estimate; answering “how many bricks per m² of 110 wall”.
Brick sizes and rates are common reference values used in Vietnam (comparable to figures often cited from material norm 1776/BXD-VP). Actual quantities vary with the specific brick, real joint thickness and site waste — this does not replace a drawing-based take-off or the norms applied to your project.
Worked example
A 110 wall of solid bricks 220×105×60 with 10 mm joints → one brick plus joint covers (0.23 × 0.07) ≈ 0.0161 m² → ≈62 bricks/m²; a 50 m² wall needs ≈3,100 bricks, plus 5% waste ≈3,260 bricks.
Frequently asked questions
How many solid bricks per m² of 110 wall?
About 62 bricks/m² with 220×105×60 bricks and 10 mm joints — the tool uses this exact formula and lets you change joint and brick type.
How does a 220 wall differ from 110?
A 220 wall is one-brick thick (≈2 brick layers over the same face area), so the count is roughly double a 110 wall — e.g. ≈124 bricks/m² for solid bricks.
What waste percentage should I allow?
Typically 5–10% for breakage, cutting at corners and handling; the tool defaults to 5% and you can adjust it.
Does it also estimate mortar?
No — this tool only counts bricks; mortar/cement/sand quantities are in the “Mortar & cement calculator” (see related tools).

How it works
The tool estimates brick count from wall area: bricks = wall area ÷ (brick face area including mortar joint) × wall-thickness layer factor × (1 + waste %).
Reference nominal sizes common in Vietnam: solid brick 220×105×60 mm, 4-hole hollow brick 205×95×95 mm, thin (card) brick 180×80×40 mm; default mortar joint 10 mm. A 110 wall is half-brick (1 layer over the wall face); a 220 wall is one-brick (2 layers). Results are indicative — formal norms (e.g. material norm 1776/BXD-VP: ≈55–64 bricks/m² for 110 walls, ≈110–128/m² for 220 walls) vary with actual brick and workmanship.
